SHELDON, Vincent
1895 - 1945

1895, Brisbane – 1945, Brisbane

Vincent Sheldon was primarily known as a printmaker and commercial artist. At the age of 17, his art training began with an American correspondence course in commercial art and design. In 1920, he travelled on his first overseas trip to the United States to further his commercial art studies, and in 1924, Sheldon made a second art-oriented expedition, this time to England; he travelled to England again in 1929. He married in 1940, but increasingly poor health led to his untimely death in 1945. Prior to this, Sheldon concentrated on printmaking and watercolour painting. At the same time, he worked in a munitions foundry to contribute to the war effort.
