Scott Redford has made the iconography of the Gold Coast part of Australia's national artistic culture, while Ed Ruscha's work memorialises late twentieth-century California. Drawing on urban and suburban landscapes — and in Redford's case on surf culture — the artists' works speak to the many intersections between art and society in postwar California and Australia.
