In this painting, Mabel Juli paints the story of the two brolga sisters who were gathering emjundaing (bush yams), which they then placed in a lahndurr-ji (coolamon). The sisters became thirsty after digging into the hard ground, so they made a nest at a nearby rockhole site where there was plenty of water. At this site, a red beetle filled their coolamon with water, which the sisters drank. They followed the beetle to the source of the water and swam and frolicked. The sisters made large wings for themselves out of branches and ran until they took flight, calling out ‘ku-rahk’ to each other. Later, a green tree frog hit the sides of the coolamon so that the water flowed back into the rockhole, where it remains today.
