In 2016, Iltja Ntjarra Many Hands Art Centre artists Mervyn Rubuntja, Dellina Inkamala and Hubert Pareroultja participated in a highly successful printmaking workshop and, four years later, attended a week-long etching intensive with Cicada Press at the University of New South Wales in Sydney. Pareroultja used the skills he acquired through these workshops to make this print.
Pareroultja is a senior Western Aranda-Luritja man who lives at Kulpitharra/Luntharra Outstation west of Hermannsburg (Ntaria). As a child, he learnt to paint by watching the renowned Ntaria watercolourist Albert Namatjira working alongside his father, Reuben, and his uncles Otto and Edwin Pareroultja. In the etching, Pareroultja depicts a vivid scene of Tjoritja, also known as the West MacDonnell Ranges.
