Howard Arkley is primarily known for his bright pop art paintings of suburban houses. His early work Organic Model F (Liquid) 1976, however, embraces more fluid, calligraphic forms, recalling the work of early twentieth-century abstract painters Paul Klee and Wassily Kandinsky. Flirting with biomorphic shapes, the work still conveys a mechanical aspect in its airbrushed black paint elements. The result is a composition that appears malleable, as hard edges and clean lines are countered by soft sprays that float and swirl, push and pull.
