LWK Wirth was well known for his water views of Brisbane and its environs. He made frequent weekend sketching trips into the countryside near Brisbane, sometimes with family members or fellow artists, and worked principally in watercolour, an easily transportable medium for these expeditions. Buderim, Coolum, the Maroochy River, Sandgate, Cribb Island (now part of the Brisbane Airport site), Mt Tamborine, Southport and Coolangatta are the subjects of many of Wirth’s paintings.
