Of the 36 works known to be painted by Fairweather in Bali, 20 were figures of women. Faces peering through windows — as if observing the artist as a European in their midst — were also a common subject during this time. The lightness of the expressive lines in this work provides a sense of both tenderness and reflection. Firm pencil lines appear underneath and on top of the oil pigment, giving form to the muted greens and greys layered over the raw cardboard.
