Stan Berriman learnt the techniques of photography at the Workers Education Association of Queensland, where a group of photographers met at rooms in the old Central Technical College (now Queensland University of Technology) on George Street, Brisbane.

This image of the Roma Street Goods Yards in central Brisbane was taken from the top of the tunnel that passes under the Normanby Fiveways intersection. As the shadowy scene suggests, it was probably shot in the late afternoon, but the effect of the photograph relies principally on the tracery of light reflected from the rail tracks, and the pools of water left by a recent shower.
