The work documents a tattoo marked on the back of the neck of a member of the 501s — a group of deportees named for the section of the Australian Migration Act initiated by 2017–21 Australian Federal Minister for Home Affairs, Peter Dutton. The Act enabled the cancellation of visas for New Zealand residents, who could be deported to New Zealand on ‘character grounds’ after serving jail sentences.
