The video Burebagasa Marama’s traces the artist’s potent experience of communal preparation and sharing of food that accompanied the funeral ceremony for her brother, Tevita. A celebration of her Fijian grandmother and aunts, this video presents a scene of Tawale’s intimate immersion in family and culture; her hands and voice joins those of her aunts’ as they scale fish, prepare garden vegetables and break and roll dough for Tevita’s final feast. To house this video, Tawale has constructed a makeshift shelter — reminiscent of the types used for social spaces in the village — from timber, corrugated iron and tarpaulins.
