Aboriginal involvement in the cattle industry, especially in northern and central Australia, was crucial to its establishment and survival. Many cattle stations were sustained by lower paid Aboriginal stockmen and domestic workers until the landmark 1965 Equal Wages Case awarded equal pay to Aboriginal stock and station workers.
