Rona Rubuntja uses the familiar painted narrative style to commemorate a special day for Hermannsburg — Kaporilya Day, a highlight on the annual calendar of Hermannsburg as it celebrates the building of the water pipeline from Kaporilya Springs to Hermannsburg. The pipeline was partly funded by a number of artists, such as Arthur Boyd, Violet Teague and Rex Battarbee, who held fund-raising auctions during the 1930s and 40s. Here, the pot focuses on the community heading out to the spring, with several people crammed into the back of a tray-back truck. The festive mood is felt by the entire community at this time, which comes together to celebrate the life giving power of water.
