This watercolour was painted in the 1950s and is an example of the influence of Albert Namatjira and the Hermannsburg School upon Anmatyerre and Arrernte artists, who later came to prominence with the Papunya ‘dot and circle’ style of painting. Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri and Tim Leura Tjapaltjarri were cousins to Kaapa Tjampitjinpa and all had been painting in the Hermannsburg style before art teacher Geoffrey Bardon arrived at the Papunya settlement in 1971.
