PAIK MOORMAN MOORE Retrospettiva
By Nicholas Chambers
‘Multiple Choice’ June 2010
Best known as a video artist, Nam June Paik and cellist and composer Charlotte Moorman used the formal structure of the musical score for their Fluxus event, Opera sextronique, in which they attempted to invest classical music with sexuality. The event resulted in Moorman’s 1967 arrest for indecent exposure. This event and others are comprehensively documented in the three folios, Retrospettiva 1964–74, of photographs, screenprints, texts and drawings by Paik and Moorman. These photographs by Peter Moore capture the iconoclasm and spirited innovation of this collaboration by two leading avant-garde artists.
