Stuart Ringholt’s sculptural works present familiar devices in seemingly functional, yet illogical, new materialisations. Following the tradition of the ‘readymade’ artwork, these works dryly comment on modern art’s penchant for the marriage of unexpected elements, transposing and repurposing a manufactured object into a work of art. Droll yet serious, these small sculptures play on the notion of a device that is developed and refined to be efficient so extensively that it ultimately renders it unusable.
