Rebecca Baumann’s golden screen invites viewers to observe how its shape is elegantly altered by the slight breeze emanating from a domestic fan: it is sensual and alluring and, at the same time, a site of transition and intrigue. Throughout her practice Baumann explores the properties of colour and their psychological influence on us. While early works often used complex mechanisation, Untitled Cascade utilises the simple mechanical device of a desk fan combined with tinsel, transforming these everyday materials into a spectacle of shimmer that examines the qualities of light, colour and movement alongside the emotive potential they offer.
