In the late 1960s, Rebecca Horn was hospitalised for an extended period of time due to poisoning and lung injury caused by working with fibreglass unprotected. Her body-extension works grew out of this period of isolation and inactivity. Within each performance, Horn explores our assumed bodily boundaries with her devices, which function as extensions of the body that variously restrict or empower the wearer.
