Purchased 2008 with funds raised through the Queensland Art Gallery Foundation Appeal

While stationed in north Queensland with the Royal Australian Air Force (1941–44), Douglas Annand painted numerous watercolours, which were later exhibited in Sydney and Melbourne. Beach scene, Thursday Island was created at this time; the jinker and the boat moored on the beach show this is a working port.
