Joe Rootsey is inevitably compared to Albert Namatjira, who used Western watercolour materials and techniques to paint his country in Central Australia. Rootsey is very much his own artist, however, using a tropical palette of blues, greens and yellows characteristic of the rainforest and waterways of East Cape York to paint his own deep affiliations with Country.
