This watercolour, the subject of which was close by the Central Technical College grounds, is the product of Penny Sharpe’s studies with Melville Haysom. Painted from the police boat wharf located between Mary Street and the City Botanic Gardens in central Brisbane, the work explores the importance of the river to the city. Sharp’s experimentation with watercolour washes brought a new freedom to her work at this time.
