These three pastels — Sunset sea, Taking on the pilot and Sunset, Moreton Bay — display Jenner’s interest in and understanding of the nuances of light. They were possibly done to demonstrate techniques with pastels to students — though they also reveal JMW Turner’s influence on Jenner. They are important as early illustrations of the Brisbane area, and as some of Jenner's earliest Queensland works.
