This view of the historic Eagle Street fountain in central Brisbane shows the city’s bustling commercial activity. Carters and horses, then employed by Bryce’s City and Suburban Parcel Delivery, rest in the shelter of a tree before venturing out on their rounds of the suburbs. Some 20 years later, the horses and carts were largely replaced by motor vehicles.
