HIRST, Damien; Beautiful inside my head forever wallpaper
By Unknown
Damien Hirst is one of a handful of living artists internationally whose work commands and achieves extraordinary prices. In parallel with his core art practice, Hirst has established his own company, Other Criteria, which releases a range of products, limited editions and multiples related to his art, including deck chairs, editioned prints, jewellery, clothing and wallpaper.
This wallpaper derives from Hirst's work The Abyss 2008, in which the artist fixed hundreds of cigarette butts and ash into a medical display cabinet. The work sold at the 2008 Sotheby's auction of Hirst's works for over one million pounds sterling. Here, the work is ironically and incongruously superimposed over a grid of flowers, drawing attention to the contrast between conventional symbols of beauty and regeneration with the remnants of an addictive and potentially fatal habit.
