Carl Magnus Oscar Fristrom was born in Sweden and moved to Australia in 1884. This is a portrait of James Davis, who was sent to Australia from Scotland as a convict. Davis escaped from the Moreton Bay penal colony and lived with the Indigenous people on Fraser Island until he was recaptured.
