HUTCHINSON, Ruth; Constellation series
Ruth Hutchinson draws imagery from many sources: imagination, myth and, more literally, the world around her. The circular canvases of the Constellation series show the myriad of sources that the artist draws on. Emphasising the power of the eye and reflecting the subconscious, they are windows into the mind. The interconnectedness of mind and body is a recurring theme for Hutchinson. Hutchinson explains:
It is about the witnessing of objects and events, global and intimate, beautiful and tragic, public and secret, and everything in between: torture, sickness, death and natural disasters as well as the small trials and tribulations of everyday existence – each breath, each heartbeat, each shiver, each blink, each smile and wink.
