Interior (Ann Grant’s bedroom) shows the bedroom of the artist’s daughter in the family home ‘Bimbimbie’, built around 1925 in Nundah in Brisbane’s north. The two-storey house surrounded by verandas was designed by Grant’s wife Gwendolyn and her cousin, architect Montague Stanley. This bedroom was located on the ground floor of the residence, but the painting would have been completed in the studio upstairs, the largest room in the house. In contrast to contemporary interior trends, which were still dominated by English aesthetics, the decor of this house could be considered quite rugged. The coloured cretonne of the bedspread and curtains introduces a touch of bright colour, while the wall on the left is decorated with one of Grant’s own still lifes.
