This work reveals the story of the people of Yanuca Island, which sits off the southern coastline of Fiji’s main Island, Viti Levu. It is believed that the inhabitants of this island are the descendants of Raveuveu and Ravule who, after falling in love on the mainland, escaped the anger of their warring parents to live on this small but fertile island. They named it ‘Yacuva’ and, over the years, the name evolved to ‘Yanuca’. The vibrant use of colour in this work depicts the joy and abundance that was experienced by the couple upon reaching the island where their family would thrive for many generations.
