Eugene Carchesio’s work addresses the enigmatic, mysterious and spiritual, working on a minimal and miniature scale. In his sculptures, the artist often uses the humble, impermanent materials of our lives, such as paper, cardboard and matchboxes. This quietly focused grid of minute contraptions exposes wires, soldering and transistors, elevating the electronic components that are usually hidden within the design of a machine. As the lights blink on and off, this succession of flashes allows an overall sense of rhythm and composition to emerge, echoing the artist’s geometric arrangements of his abstract paintings and his keen interest in music.
