Kalam Patua produces watercolours in the style of Kalighat paintings. His unique artworks frequently contain elements of autobiography and myth, and reflect on social issues or current news events. Topics have ranged from the changing nature of Indian society, dowry deaths and violence against women, to light and humorous works, including a series about working in the postal system. In this work he shows a blossoming romance, with a young woman stamping the mail and her admirer offering a flower as she smiles at him over her shoulder.
