Bessie Gibson’s Church scene appears to show the confirmation of a group of young girls, whose white-clad forms are in the foreground. They are led by two nuns wearing coronets, identifying them as Sisters of Charity. Although the location is unknown, it is probably regional France, perhaps Brittany, where religious rituals were still an important part of daily life in the early twentieth century.
