Deborah Kelly cuts up science journals and fashion magazines to make mythical hybrid beings. She combines this disjointed material to create figures that are part-woman, part-insect, taking cues from the experimental Dada collages and surrealist paintings of the early twentieth century. Kelly’s practice interrogates representations of women and environmental degradation; her collages seek to disrupt conventional portrayals of femininity and the barriers between humans and nature.
