Recce reveals Douglas Green’s clearest reference to war, showing soldiers on reconnaissance — crawling through vegetation, wading through water and scrambling over barbed wire. During the war, many artists, including Green, chose to paint landscapes, and the places they recorded most frequently were the rest stops and temporary camps that provided them with the opportunity to sketch and paint.
