BIO: Margaret Rarru

Margaret Rarru is a senior Liyagawumirr woman who has been weaving both traditional and innovative pieces for many years. Rarru is the younger sister of the important Milingimbi artist Micky Durrng. Following his death in 2006, Rarru inherited custodianship of Garrawurra clan stories and, in addition to her weaving practice, started painting on bark and hollow log poles. In 2007, Rarru won the coveted Bark Painting Award at the Telstra National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Awards.
Rarru is represented in major public collections including the South Australian Museum, Adelaide; Melbourne Museum; and the Museum and Art Galleries of the Northern Territory, Darwin.
