GIMBLETT, Max; Octopus mandala
The work Octopus mandala closely follows Max Gimblett's technique for his larger scale paintings of free calligraphic brushwork structured with a particular abstract motif (in this case a 'stepped' geometric structure). Gimblett said that this work was influenced by 'Boroobudur, Japanese erotic woodcuts of octopus, diving bells at the bottom of the seas, Shinto shrines and kites.'
