Kumi Sugai's immaculate abstract screenprints are characteristic of several Japanese printmakers, including Kazuo Sakohata (b.1955) and Kunihiro Amano (b.1929), as well as having parallels with the French artist Daniel Buren (b.1938). Playing the standard geometric shapes of circle and rectangle off against each other, in association with line, this bold graphic image comes close to Op Art.
