ESSAY: MICK, Paniny; Seven sisters and Tjala Tjukurpa...
Paniny Mick and her daughters have collaborated here for the first time to depict two important stories. Tjala Tjukurpa tells of the ancestral honey ant whose tracks wind through the valley where Amata lies. The Seven Sisters Dreaming concerns the constellations Pleiades and Orion – the sisters are Pleiades and Orion is Nyiru, a man who lusts after the sisters and is forever chasing them.
The Seven Sisters Dreaming is embedded in the Amata landscape – in the rocks and trees and in images painted on cave walls.
