Although residing for the greater part of his life in Bilambil Heights in northern New South Wales, Thomas Pilgrim’s working career was concentrated in Brisbane. In 1946, he began studying a certificate in applied art at the Central Technical College and was later employed by the state education department to teach art. During the early 1960s, he studied drawing with Jon Molvig. In 1969, Pilgrim was appointed to the position of art instructor at the Central Technical College and shortly after became the senior instructor there, a position he held until his retirement in 1986.
