Acquired from WG Grant’s 1954 Queensland National Art Gallery retrospective exhibition, this watercolour shows the vista across neighbouring properties from the upstairs veranda of the Grants’ house ‘Bimbimbie’ in Nundah, a northern suburb of Brisbane. The view is taken from the large open space on the second floor, which was Grant’s studio. Despite the apparent freedom of its execution, the work is tightly structured, relying on a grid of verticals and varying diagonals.
