‘150 Years: Photography in Queensland from the Gallery’s Collection’ (2009) honours the important history of photography in this state, the establishment of which in 1859 roughly coincides with the rise in prominence of the photographic medium. 

In the second half of the nineteenth century, photography rapidly became not just an important means of communication but also an accessible and popular hobby for many people. ‘150 Years’ (2009) explores the Gallery’s holdings of photographs made in Queensland, from the establishment of the state to the present, as a tribute to the importance and durability of photography.
