Many Hermannsburg pots feature exotic animals such as this family of North American bald eagles (Haliaeetus leucocephalus), perched on their nest in a dead tree, juxtaposed with an Arrernte Central Desert landscape. Birds are Noreen Hudson's favourite subject:

When I am painting the pot I think about birds everyday — eagles, magpies, white and red and pink parrots — allacockie (all the cockies). Sometimes I copy birds from that big book and sometimes I do it in my mind.
