Joe Jones’s Music box 1974–75 uses a guitar as a sound sculpture, where the instrument is ‘played’ by the revolutions of a rubber strip attached to a small electric motor. The resulting sound is a low, harmonic drone with subtle variations as the strings are struck in a mechanical but slightly irregular way.
