Margaret Rarru is recognised for her innovative approach to traditional weaving practices. The rare mol (black) dye in Rarru’s work comes from a secret process that was discovered through experimentation with local plants gathered on Yurrwi (Milingimbi Island). Her use of monochrome draws attention to the intricacy of the weave and the subtle changes in dye across the strands. The neat and even patterns in Rarru’s work demonstrate her skill as a master weaver and one of the finest textile artists working in Australia today.
