This painting depicts the banks of the river at Kangaroo Point, opposite the Brisbane City Botanic Gardens. The foreshore littered with lumber foreshadows the major industrial development that would take place in the area during the twentieth century. (Soon, Evans Deakin & Company, one of the most famous engineering and shipbuilding firms in Australia, would establish their shipyards here.) Such industry reinforces the importance of the river to the development of Brisbane itself.
