TOW ROW
Artwork story

A daylight view of a sculpture, taking the form of a fishnet cast in bronze, installed outside of GOMA

tow row 2016 is the outcome of the Queensland Indigenous Artist Public Art Commission, developed to mark the tenth anniversary of the opening of the Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA) in 2006. This bronze work is installed at the entrance to GOMA, at the corner of the Maiwar Green in the Brisbane Cultural Precinct.

In tow row, Judy Watson has responded to this site close to the Brisbane River by referencing woven nets used by Aboriginal people of the area, acknowledging the Traditional Owners of the site and their everyday fishing activities on the river and local saltwater waterways.

Explore the tow row immersive digital experience, launched in 2021.
