PARKINSON, Roy
1901 - 1945

1901, Brisbane – 1945, Brisbane

Roy Philip Parkinson was born and educated in Brisbane and played a significant role in the Brisbane art community until his death by suicide at age 44. He studied art at the Central Technical College under FJ Martyn Roberts, as well as privately with Hubert Jarvis and William Bustard. Parkinson exhibited frequently in Brisbane, where he was a member of the Royal Queensland Art Society, as well as from time to time in Sydney. Notably, he was selected for inclusion in the 1937 Australian Collection of Art Coronation Exhibition in London. Active in teaching circles, Parkinson’s book Praise Life and Practise Art, published in 1946, expounded his ideas about art and art practice.
