‘Gone Fishing’ presents Indigenous Australian artists’ works from the QAGOMA Collection that affirm the cultural, social and recreational activity of fishing.

Alongside the display of fish traps, spears, nets and depictions of leisure, this exhibition also showcases works that respond to topical discussions: rising and warming seas, the contamination of waters and Traditional Owners’ struggle to have the power under Native Title law to care for their Sea Country.

Many works included in ‘Gone Fishing’ speak to the artist’s individual community’s position on the ongoing environmental destruction and pollution that threaten all aspects of our lives.

‘Gone Fishing’ was a free exhibition of works from the QAGOMA Collection, held in GOMA's Gallery 3.5 from 20 May 2023 to 21 January 2024.
